Full, well-shaped eyebrows on models and celebrities have inspired many men and women to achieve this look. However, due to their genetics, not everyone is capable of simply growing out their eyebrows and creating the shape they want. In fact, many individuals struggle with having sparse brows. Eyebrow transplantation offers a way to attain more desirable density and definition. See the example below of a real-life patient case where fuller, thicker and natural looking brows were created in an eyebrow transplant using nape hair harvested with the Dr.UGraft™ system’s Intelligent Punch™ (Dr.UPunch i™).
As with any type of cosmetic procedure, the best results will look the most natural, not surgically enhanced. Patients count on their doctors to help them achieve this quality. Therefore it is absolutely necessary to select the right grafts that match the thickness of real eyebrow hair.
This patient admired celebrity Brook Shields for her classic feminine qualities and trend-setting bold eyebrows. The celebrity was thus used as an inspiration for density and arch shape.
Hair taken from the scalp is far too thick and tends to produce a very conspicuous looking result. Since general FUE punches are best suited for removing head hair, more specialized instrumentation is recommended for extracting other types of grafts. Therefore, the Intelligent Punch™ (Dr.UPunch i™) was used to extract 350 grafts from the nape of the patient’s neck.
The fine quality of nape hair allows doctors to create softer and more realistic looking brows. Extracting these follicles is best done with specialized instrumentation versus basic FUE punches which are best suited for regular scalp hair.
Nape hair has unique characteristics and growth angles compared to head hair. Using the right instrumentation is essential for acquiring healthy grafts and ensuring their long-term survival. Basic straight punches, such as the one in the video below, often struggle to safely extract angled hair. This results in transection.
To overcome this challenge, the Intelligent Punch™ (Dr.UPunch i™) is equipped with a revolutionary and patented curved cutting axis and gentle (non-vacuum) graft grip, pull, score, and release system that enables greater precision and safety when extracting these grafts. Additionally, the Dr.UGraft™ fluid integration system assists in both graft hydration and graft pull. This is illustrated in the animation below.
Thus, issues of angulation are minimized with the Intelligent Punch™ (Dr.UPunch i™), enabling the extraction of fine hairs from the body for procedures which require a more delicate touch.
With Dr.UGraft ™ hair transplant graft survival is enhanced through the gentle upward pulling feature which can accommodate follicles with many different hair angles.
This highly advanced technology also enables wound healing results that are visually impeccable. Since the nape area reveals more skin than typically donor areas on the head, patients expect these regions to remain as pristine as possible without noticeable redness or bumps. Women prefer wearing their hair up at times. Also men will want the freedom to wear short (or shaven) hair lengths, particularly on the back of the head.
It should be noted that not all males will be ideal candidates for nape hair transplantation. In some individuals, these grafts will not permanently survive in the recipient area. Dr. U developed the FUE Shave Test to determine which patients are eligible as candidates. The test, as well as a study on the use of nape and peri-auricular hair in 6 eyebrow transplant procedures, were published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal.
While scarring is an inevitable consequence of skin extractions, The Intelligent Punch™ makes it possible to greatly minimize the outward appearance of any scar tissue that does form. The punch ends can be customized and shaped to create wound cavity configurations that draw excess tissue inwards during the healing process.

The cost of an eyebrow transplant procedure can vary according to the location of the doctor/clinic, donor area, method used, as well as graft count. Consulting with a hair transplant provider near you can help clarify procedure cost and financing.
The donor area is shaved in order to extract grafts. However, the entire head does not need to be shaved.
Using the Intelligent Punch™ (Dr.UPunch i™), various hairy areas on the body can be used for donor supply. This includes fine hair along the nape, legs, pubic hair, and arms.
