Understanding Your Hair Transplant Graft Estimate

There are several factors that go into the determining your final graft estimate for hair transplant. Below are descriptions of such factors accounted for by the DIY uGraft Calculator.

Head Size

Head size can affect graft count due to varying surface areas of the scalp. Larger heads have a larger scalp surface area, and thus may require more grafts for sufficient coverage. Conversely, smaller heads have a smaller surface area on the scalp, requiring less grafts for coverage.

Hair Type

The texture of one’s hair can influence the results of the uGraft estimator. Curly or afro-textured hair covers more of the scalp than straight or wavy hair does. This means that patients with curly hair often require fewer grafts than those with straight hair.

This patient benefited from 1400 grafts safely extracted with the Dr.UPunch Curl. Afro-textured hair typically covers more surface area on the scalp, which translates to a lower graft requirement.

Hair and Skin Color

Contrasting hair and skin color can draw attention to empty spaces on the scalp. This means, for example, that dark hair on dark skin, or light hair on light skin, would require fewer grafts than dark skin with light hair. The DIY uGraft Calculator takes these combinations into consideration when returning a graft amount. This helps create a more accurate estimate.

Donor Area

The Dr.UGraft System allows hair transplant providers to look beyond the conventional safe donor area (SDA) for grafts. The Intelligent Punch (Dr.UPunch i) for instance, features patent and non-patented graft grip, pull, score, and release mechanisms. This helps overcome challenges for body hair extraction, such as hair angulation under the skin, misalignment of the punch, and wideness of follicular units. By breaking free of conventional donor area limitations, the DIY uGraft calculator is able to return higher graft counts for severely bald patients.

In addition to higher graft amounts, the ability to harvest from unconventional donor areas provides a variety of different hair calibers, which can be useful in creating natural-looking results. The fine, soft hair along the nape of the neck, for instance, is typically a good match for the hair that grows along the front hairline. Other body donor areas, such as the leg, can also be used for this purpose.

Below are Dr.UGraft patient cases. The examples demonstrate the unique ability of the Dr.UGraft system to provide healthy, quality grafts.

1000 Grafts Hair Transplant Result

The patient below wanted to fix his pluggy hairline from previous hair transplant procedures at other clinics. Harsh-looking hairlines can result from hair restoration procedure that use hair exclusively from the SDA. Hair in the aforementioned area is naturally thicker and coarser than the native hair on the hairline. Leg hair was used in this 1000s grafts hair transplant procedure, a historic first in the realm of FUE.

The patient above received a 1000 grafts hair transplant with Dr.UGraft. The Intelligent Punch (Dr.UPunch i) was used to extract leg hair for this advanced procedure.

uGraft Calculator Vs. Other Hair Transplant Graft Estimate Services

The DIY uGraft Calculator differs from other online hair graft estimators in several ways. One of the main components that set the uGraft Calculator apart is its ability to return higher graft amounts. This offers individuals with more progressive stages of hair loss a new hope for restoration.

Estimates for Severely Bald Patients

The higher graft amounts returned by the uGraft Calculator are due, in part, to the intelligent capabilities of the Dr.UPunch i (The Intelligent Punch). By expanding the donor area beyond the SDA on the back of the head, even patients with hair loss along the lower edges of this traditional donor area can find hope in hair restoration.

The Intelligent Punch (Dr.UPunch i helped this patient meet a high graft estimate by augmenting the donor supply with beard grafts.
